In a conference held at Provo City, Utah Territory, in the year 1867, in the bowery, on the northwest corner of the now Provo Commercial Bank block, President Brigham Young, in the course of a sermon he was delivering to the people, made the following prophecy: "Brethren, this Church will be led onto the very brink of hell by the leaders of this people, then God will raise up the one `Mighty and Strong' spoken of in the 85th Section of the Doctrine & Covenants to save and redeem this Church." Attested to by Joshua Jones who made a minute of it at that time and now has it in his diary. He is now (June 1922) at Provo City, Utah. The sending of this one "Mighty and Strong" the Lord has purposed for the salvation of the honest in heart among his people, and to be the initiative to bring about the great blessing the Lord has in reserve to cause the poor, the lame, the deaf, and the blind to rejoice. (One Mighty and Strong, John T. Clark, p. 106)
Note: You will notice that John T. Clark made the attribution above to Joshua Jones in 1922, therefore he (not Joshua Jones himself) obviously attributed "spoken of in the 85th Section" since that section did not exist at the time the statement was made by Brigham Young and the two other sources make no mention of it as well, thus showing the lying spirit of Van Hale. Scholars such as Van Hale, thus routinely make mistakes and assumptions for there are two other sources below for this quote which make no mention of D&C 85, and it is Van Hale who is phony, not the quote)
Two other eyewitnesses to Quote from Brigham Young:
Brother Peay also told of hearing Joshua Jones of Provo tell of hearing Brigham Young say, "The time will come when this people are led onto the very brink of apostacy." Jones made an entry of it in his Journal. The speech was made in the Old Bowery at Provo.
Learned through Lorin C. Woolley, that his father, John W. Woolley, attended the above meeting, and upon arriving home at Centerville he told Lorin and his mother of the incident. He related it thusly: "President Young, being filled with the Holy Ghost, said, `The time will come when this people will be led onto the very brink of hell by their leaders, then the one mighty and strong will come to set the house of God in order.'" Journal of Joseph W. Musser. (You will notice that no mention of D&C 85 is made here, obviating the objection by Van Hale--of course he conveniently ignores these or slanders them by saying they lie as he himself does routinely.
"Unto the pure all things [are] pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving [is] nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled." (Titus 1:15)

Subject: Call to Van Hale
Art, what did you think of my call last
evening? I'd appreciate getting advice on last night's call. I wanted to
discuss the doctrine of the OMS and Root of Jesse into more detail but I got
stuck on discussing the whole negro priesthood issue. I heard you arguing
with him about theistic evolution when I called.
Aaron
D&C 10:21
21 And their hearts are corrupt, and full of wickedness and abominations; and they love darkness rather than light, because their deeds are evil; therefore they will not ask of me.
Dear Aaron,
Yes, I called last night to talk to you about these things. I would have forewarned you about that quote from Joshua Jones. Back in ‘86 I had a radio program on the same station with Van and I had a habit of calling in to his program as well, (actually it was not a habit, but I was moved upon by the Holy Ghost), every day (it was daily back then), KZZI (which made Time Magazine as “The Mouse that Roared”). Anyway I used that quote from one of Ogden’s books, 95 Theses, and he (Van Hale) said at that time it was spurious. I could not remember the exact reason he used, but I called up Ogden about it and he said that the Dairy of Joshua Jones was hidden by the Church in a vault somewhere and out of the reach of anyone to view its contents. There are various versions of the quote, which I include here, none of which mention the exact section of the D&C which is as Van says. Van seizes upon this particular version in order to satisfy his hunger for destroying the faith of the righteous as all anti-Christs do (he is an anti-Christ—Darwinist, saith the Lord). Also I believe that Joshua Jones was quoted perhaps as saying that after 1879 (he was alive in 1922) and that he referenced Brigham Young inaccurately by memory modifying his words to refer to the current at that time, edition of the D&C or it could have been modified by the third hand source for the quote. I found another source for the quote from Joshua Jones, but this is from the Journal of Joseph W. Musser and it is a completely different source than the John T. Clark reference which Van Hale disputes :
September 28, 1938. Last evening we held conjoint class meeting with the Priesthood and sisters. 62 present. Daniel R. Peay of Provo, told of hearing President Charles W. Penrose say, shortly after Brother Grant became President of the Church, "We have been making a mistake in ordinations; we have been conferring the Priesthood and it ought not to be done. If we confer the Priesthood on a man we give him all the offices and callings in the Church. We should ordain to the office in the Priesthood. There is only one man that holds the Priesthood." Brother Peay also told of hearing Joshua Jones of Provo tell of hearing Brigham Young say, "The time will come when this people are led onto the very brink of apostacy." Jones made an entry of it in his Journal. The speech was made in the Old Bowery at Provo.
Learned through Lorin C. Woolley, that his father, John W. Woolley, attended the above meeting, and upon arriving home at Centerville he told Lorin and his mother of the incident. Journal of Joseph W. Musser.
Aaron, you will notice that no reference is made by these witnesses as to the exact section of the D&C in which the excerpt from the letter to WW Phelps is contained and is now Section 85. The only reference is that they heard BY say the OMS would come. Also Orson Pratt discoursed on the OMS in the presence of BY who sat on the stand as Orson Pratt spoke in the Tabernacle. It does not seem in character that BY would have allowed false doctrine on that subject to be taught. But of course Van in his self-imposed blindness (classic denial, a form of insanity, saith the Lord) overlooks this fact either intentionally or subconsciously because of his bias.
More on the bondage the people would be in when the OMS arrived (he is here now, saith the Lord):
Brigham Young warned the Saints of the perilous times the Church would go through. His remarks were reported by Joshua Jones, who said:
In a conference held at Provo City, Utah Territory, in the year 1867, in the bowery, on the northwest corner of the now Provo Commercial Bank block, President Brigham Young, in the course of a sermon he was delivering to the people, made the following prophecy: "Brethren, this Church will be led onto the very brink of hell by the leaders of this people, then God will raise up the one `Mighty and Strong' spoken of in the 85th Section of the Doctrine & Covenants to save and redeem this Church." (One Mighty and Strong, John T. Clark, p. 106)
From the scriptures, Apostle Orson Pratt learned that this people would become involved with Babylon and end up in bondage. He wrote:
It seems then that this people, at some future time in their sojourn here in this land, may possibly be in bondage greater than they are at the present time. I try to hope for the best, and to think that the bondage [120] we are in and have been in for years, in consequence of the efforts of those who are striving to take away our rights as American citizens, and to trample us down in the dust; I say I have been in hopes that that would be all the bondage that was meant here in this prophecy, but I do not know but what there may be a greater signification to these words. I do not know what the purposes of the Lord are in relation to this particular thing. It may be that we shall have our rights completely taken from us; it may be, if we do not live sufficiently faithful before the Lord, that he will yet bring us into still greater tribulation than that which we have hitherto had. It may be that we shall yet be in bondage like the Israelites in the land of Egypt; for the Lord has said that, when this man should be raised up, he would redeem his people by power out of bondage, and they should be led as their fathers were led at the first. (JD 17:303)
Orson Pratt continued with his understanding of these scriptures, that this people would be delivered from a bondage in a very similar fashion to what the ancient Israelites were delivered from the Egyptians:
In these last days, in redeeming his people from bondage, he has told us in plain words, that his angel should go before us and also his presence; and as, in the deliverance of Israel in ancient times the waters were divided and plagues sent forth upon the Egyptian nation, it would not surprise me at all if there should be similar power manifested in the redemption of Zion. There may be a few individuals go to prepare the way, to purchase a little more land and get things in order; but when that is accomplished, this people as a body will return to that land, the Lord going with them.
In ancient times, so long as the Lord did continue with Israel, he manifested his glory over their camp by a cloud by day; and whenever the cloud arose they followed it, and wherever it rested, there they pitched their tents and remained until the cloud moved again, when they again journeyed on. Now, if Zion is to be [121] redeemed after the same manner, you need not be surprised if the Lord God should let his glory, in the form of a cloud by day and the shining of a flaming fire by night, be over all the camp of Zion. This is what I look for; perhaps I am a little enthusiastic, but it is really what I look for and expect; and when the Lord says that his presence shall go with us, I expect he will be in the midst of this people as he was in the midst of ancient Israel until they rejected him from their midst. (JD 17:304)
Joseph Fielding Smith understood the seriousness of the dangers facing the Church. He quoted Isaiah and then commented:
"The earth is also defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinances and broken the everlasting covenant." (Isa. 24:5)
Are we not too much inclined to blame the generations that are past for the breaking of the new and everlasting covenant, and to think it is because of the great apostasy which followed the ministry of the Apostles in primitive times, that these troubles are coming upon the earth? Perhaps we should wake up to the realization that it is because of the breaking of covenants, especially the new and everlasting covenant, which is the fullness of the gospel as it has been revealed, that the world is to be consumed by fire and few men left. Since this punishment is to come, at the time of the cleansing of the earth when Christ comes again, should not Latter-day Saints take heed unto themselves? We have been given the new and everlasting covenant, and many among us have broken it, and many are now breaking it: Therefore all who are guilty of this offense will aid in bringing to pass this destruction in which they will find themselves swept from the earth when the great and dreadful day of the Lord shall come. (Des. News, Oct.17, 1936, p. 7)
Mormon also warned of the pride and materialism among the Saints of our day:
Behold, I speak unto you as if ye were present, and yet ye are not, but behold, Jesus Christ hath shown you unto me, and I know your doing.
And I know that ye do walk in the pride of your hearts; and there are none save a few only who do not lift themselves up in the pride of their hearts, unto the wearing of very fine apparel, unto envying, and strifes, and malice and persecutions, and all manner of iniquities; and your churches, yea, even every one, have become polluted because of the pride of your hearts.
For behold, ye do love money, and your substance, and your fine apparel, and the adornment of your churches, more than ye love the poor and the needy, the sick and the afflicted.
O ye pollutions, ye hypocrites, ye teachers, who sell yourselves for that which will canker, why have you polluted the holy church of God? Why are ye ashamed to take upon you the name of Christ? Why do ye not think that greater is the value of an endless happiness than that misery which never dies--because of the praise of the world?
Why do you adorn yourselves with that which hath no life, and yet suffer the hungry, and the needy and the naked, and the sick and the afflicted to pass by you, and notice them not? (Mormon 8:35-39)
F. M. Darter, the Independent Fundamentalist, observed that things in the Church certainly needed to be set in order because--
We have surrounded ourselves with luxuries and have hoarded up great sums of treasures which have been invested in non-church property, saying to ourselves that surely these things will make us secure in the hour of need. It appears, however, that the Lord [123] is not satisfied with the hearts of His Saints and the treasures of His Church being tied up in carnal and material securities and with no provisions for the home gathering of thousands of Saints, the world over, who now desire to gather in before serious trouble begins. . . . To those who are not prepared and are found taking advantage of the Saints, the Lord has pronounced judgment through this "Mighty and Strong One." (Zion's Redemption, p. 90) Taken from the works of Ogden Kraut
Van of course is the one of the chief Priests, scribes and a member of the Pharisees of the Mormon Church, the very type that were lifted up in pride in the days of Jesus in the “one true Church” of the day, the Jewish Church:
Mormon 8.
Aaron, You being a “babe in the woods” stumbled into the jaws of this ravening wolf who delights in devouring the souls of the righteous as the anti-Christ he is (Darwinist who give lip service only to a belief in God, but who sets up agenda-driven scientists as the sole source of historical and scientific truth, but whose theories devolve from a desire to lift up their heads in rebellion against the Creator. Their hearts are desperately wicked, saith the Lord, therefore they are led by the evil one to defy my power and lead the unwary and ignorant among them to also lift up their heads in wickedness that they exclaim, do as you wish, let your hearts be glad. We are free from the delusions of our fathers, and they commit whoredoms and all manner of abominations because they are not taught to fear me, the Lord God as were their fathers. Hence their nation is crumbling and rotten and their structures of their society crumbleth before their eyes. Yea, saith the Lord, their families and nation is being consumed as by the locust and the termite which eateth away at their foundation that they fall into the pit, saith the Lord God of Israel. Even so. Amen.
D&C 1:16,19
16 They seek not the Lord to establish his righteousness, but every man walketh in his own way, and after the image of his own god, whose image is in the likeness of the world, and whose substance is that of an idol, which waxeth old and shall perish in Babylon, even Babylon the great, which shall fall.
19 The weak things of the world shall come forth and break down the mighty and strong ones, that man should not counsel his fellow man, neither trust in the arm of flesh--
Rev 18:2
2 And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.
